This buttermilk waffle recipe is my new addiction. These delicious and savory waffles have a striking crispy exterior with a fluffy and tender interior. Don’t require any food processor or mixer; whisk them in a bowl, cook, and whip them up in your breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups gluten-free, all-purpose flour

  • 3 cups low fat buttermilk

  • ½ cup melted butter

  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten

  • 3 tsp baking powder

  • 1½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • Maple syrup

  • Blueberry sauce

  • Banana – Caramel sauce

  • Berries and cream for topping

  • EQUIPMENT
  • Waffle Iron

  • Oven

  • 3 Bowls

  • Cooking Oil Spray

  • Kitchen Towel or Food Storage Cover

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a bowl, add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and flutter until they are evenly combined.
  • In a separate bowl, gently whisk buttermilk and butter.
  • Take a third bowl and stir both buttermilk mixture and flour mixture until the batter is slightly lumpy. When whisking together, try to do it gently until no more streaks of dry flour are left. Add vanilla extract.
  • Note: Do not try to whisk flour buttermilk and butter straight in a bowl. First, mix dry and wet ingredients separately; otherwise, the wet ingredients may not incorporate correctly or may take a long time to integrate.
  • Cover the batter with a food storage cover or kitchen towel and set aside for at least 10 minutes—Preheat the waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions and grease with non-stick cooking oil or spray.
  • Now when your batter is ready, and the waffle iron is heated, it’s time to make these crispy and delicious waffles. Scoop batter into each grid of the waffle iron and cook until you get your desired crispiness.
  • Preheat the oven at 250℉. Set a metal cooling wire on the top of the baking rack and place it in the oven.
  • Transfer the cooked waffle to the cooling rack in the heated oven. Ensure all the waffles are placed in a single layer; it will prevent the steam from trapping between layers and offers you an even crispness. Repeat the same process with the remaining batter and cook more waffles.
  • When all batches are prepared, serve them as soon as possible. Top them with your favorite maple syrup or berries and cream. Happy eating!

  • For added crispiness, replace half of the buttermilk with fresh milk. Once I tried this swap in my recipe, and I was amazed by the taste. It gives excellent crispiness to waffles that I never got before. You should also try this.
